Frequently Asked Questions
We understand you will have lots of questions and we are happy to answer them. We're hoping some of them may be answered below but if not please don't hesitate to contact us. Lets start with the most important ones…
Q. Are you qualified?
A. We have both attended college gained the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants. Tanya has had private training at Abbfabb Academy of Dog Grooming Training and is currently at college doing her City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Introductory Dog Grooming/Diploma for Professional Dog Stylists.
Q. Was your training done online?
A. No. We have been to college and Tanya has trained at Abbfabb Academy - a leading UK Dog Grooming School.
Q. Are you Insured?
A. Yes, fully insured for any eventually.
Q. How long will it take to groom my dog?
A. This is one of those “how long is a piece of string” questions. It really depends on how much work has to be done, the size of your dog, the age of your dog (puppies and elderly dogs require more time) and whether your dog has ever been groomed before. We endeavour to give your dog a happy experience. We don’t want them fearing the trip to the groomers! If this takes more time, then so be it! Equally all dogs are groomed to a high standard and sometimes this can be time consuming. If it is your first time we will evaluate how much work needs to be done and give a rough estimate on the time it will take. Once you are coming regularly we should be able to provide a pretty accurate time.
Q. Do I have to stay with my dog whilst you groom them?
A. We usually find dogs behave better if they are left with us. Our grooming sessions are one to one with no distractions. This enables us to give your dog our full attention. It won’t take long for your dog to settle with us so that we can safely complete the groom.
Q. Why don't you have a price list on your website?
A. Prices vary and are based on the condition, size, temperament of your dog. Time is also a big factor. No two dogs are the same! A rough estimate can be given via telephone but this may change upon actual evaluation.
Q. My dog is matted. Can you get them out?
A. This all depends on how you define “matted.” The odd knot can be dealt with, usually without obvious results. If your dog is severely matted, we WILL NOT try and brush them out. Trying to brush them out is quite simply cruel! It causes unnecessary pain and suffering which is forbidden under the Animal Welfare Act. If we feel this is the case, the only option will be to shave them off. This will remove the matts without causing pain to your dog. We can then advise the best grooming routine to ensure this does not happen again.
Q. My dog has bitten the vet before. Will you still groom him?
A. Depending on the level of aggression, we will try and groom your dog. Nothing is a problem as long as you TELL US FIRST! We appreciate some dogs may be nervous or fearful which usually ends up with an aggressive reaction. With our years of experience we are quite good at reading a dog’s body language and will work to prevent them from feeling this way. Muzzles may be used, if required, which are the Baskerville type. This allow your dog to breath freely during use. If your dog becomes so aggressive it is unsafe to continue, we will call you and let you know.
Q. Can you sedate my dog?
A. NO! We will NEVER use sedatives. On the rare occasion, some dogs are sedated but this must only be done by a qualified veterinarian.
Q. I need to cancel, is this a problem?
A. We understand that life doesn't always go to plan. If you find you have to cancel, please give us as much notice as possible. Late cancellations and no shows cost us time and money!
Q. I think I’d like my dog’s coat shorter. Can you do this?
A. Of course we can! Obviously we endeavour to groom your dog to your requests but if you find you don’t like something or want it shorter next time then just let us know. We won’t know there is something wrong unless you tell us, so please don’t be afraid to say!
